CAMDEN - Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has endorsed Dana Redd to become Camden’s next mayor, saying she offers the leadership skills and vision not only to fuel the city of Camden’s resurgence but to further the economic development of the entire region.
“Dana Redd’s election would be a tremendous boost for progress on both sides of the Delaware,” Nutter said. “She has the experience, energy, and passion for making our cities thrive that will pay big dividends for the Philadelphia-South Jersey regional economy.”
Mayor Nutter said he has enjoyed a close working relationship with Mayor Gwendolyn Faison and looks forward to the close cooperation between their two cities continuing with Redd as mayor. He said that Redd, given her experience as a city councilwoman and state senator, is primed to hit the ground running on issues of importance to Camden and Philadelphia.
“Dana Redd knows the issues and the key players central to bringing economic-development efforts to fruition,” Nutter said. He added that Redd, who enjoys a close personal connection with the residents of Camden, will be able to fast-track proposals she believes her constituents will accept and caution against those likely to prompt community concern.
“Dana and I recognize that a body of water is the only thing that divides our two cities,” Nutter said. “This is about working together to bring about the strongest regional economy we possibly can.”
Redd said she was gratified by Mayor Nutter’s support and said she looked forward to working with him when she becomes mayor.
“Mayor Nutter has done great things for the people of Philadelphia and our region despite an extended national recession,” Redd said. “He is a strong leader who believes that sound planning, cooperation and consensus will produce the kind of smart development that will help our region grow and prosper.”
