TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senators Fred H. Madden (D – Gloucester, Camden) and Donald Norcross (D – Camden, Gloucester) that would designate Route 42 as the “Route 42 Purple Heart Memorial Highway” today cleared the Senate Transportation Committee.

“We can never do enough to thank the courageous men and women who have served their country,” said Madden, who recently was named the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars’ “Legislator of the Year.” “This designation is just one small measure of our gratitude for those who, in times of combat, displayed astounding bravery. We truly owe them a great debt.”

At a January 23rd meeting of the Southern New Jersey Freeholders’ Association, the prestigious Southern Star Award was presented to Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr.

“There is no one who deserves this award more than Freeholder Director Cappelli,” said Camden County Freeholder Rodney Greco, whose term as president of the association ended last night as he passed the gavel to new president Julie Acton of Salem County.

Measure Would Authorize State Contribution to Defray Funeral Costs

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senators Donald Norcross (D-Camden/Gloucester) and Fred Madden (D-Gloucester/Camden) to aid the families of fallen police officers, firefighters, emergency medical responders and correctional officers by providing assistance to help cover funeral costs was approved today by Senate Law and Public Safety Committee.
